Paytm Chief Personally Lures Annoyed Google Pay User

No KYC process for linking bank account, and “CEO level customer support” are the two features that were highlighted Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, in what appears to be a rather impromptu conversation on Twitter. Yesterday, author Aparna Jain had posted about a system glitch on Google Pay, writing about error code XV on the payments app and not having any access to user support to debug this glitch. Replying to this conversation, Sharma wrote, “Please try Paytm, and you won’t post such support requests. Yes! You can pay directly from bank account and NO KYC. Bonus: CEO level customer support.”

The promises made by Sharma appear to have sparked off a mixed stream of opinions on the Twitter conversation thread. While many expressed that they agree with Sharma about Paytm and its customer support in comparison with Google Pay, others voiced mixed opinions. Twitter user Devansh Mehta replied to the thread, saying, “Paytm is a million times better than Google Pay, but I feel that over time, with inclusion of various features into a single app, (they) have made it appear quite complex to a layman. That is why I’ve seen people slowly shift to PhonePe.”

Many others, however, mocked Sharma’s “CEO level customer support” claim to state that the Paytm customer support was, in fact, not as professional and able as the app’s founder claimed. One Twitter user, Amrendra Dubey, said, “Paytm support is the worst I have ever experienced. They deliver dead products, and don’t even take a return despite the product being returnable. More to it, seeking support from Vijay Shekhar Sharma is very disappointing. Even after escalation to him, Paytm does not even follow their own policy.”

After having started as an online payment wallet, Paytm has grown into one of the most successful startups of India so far. Today, it offers digital payment services including the first digital wallet model, and has expanded its services into areas such as Paytm Payments Bank, the Paytm Mall e-commerce and retail outlet, and more.

Its founder, Sharma, has previously spoken out about how services like what he offers is stifled by technology majors such as Google. On this note, he has been a vocal critic of Google in particular, and the latest conversation represents yet another instance of Sharma speaking out against a Google product.
