Hungary: Lewis Hamilton regained his momentum within the drivers’ world championship with a memorable strategic victory on Sunday when he overcame younger rival Max Verstappen to triumph in a tense and thrilling Hungarian Grand Prix.
The 34-year-old defending five-time champion began third on the grid in his Mercedes and, after stalking the 21-year-old Dutch tyro for many of an enchanting tactical contest, lastly swept into the lead on lap 67 of a stirring 70 laps.
Hamilton’s file seventh win in Hungary and 81st of his profession wrecked Purple Bull’s hopes of turning Verstappen’s maiden pole place into victory and elevated his lead within the title race to 62 factors earlier than the game’s European summer time break.

Mercedes matched Purple Bull’s technique till playing with a late extra pit-stop that left Hamilton with 20 laps to make up a 20-second deficit on contemporary tyres – a transfer that labored with Verstappen complaining to his crew earlier than he misplaced the lead “my tyres are dead”.
